FRIDAY’S MLB SLATE AT A GLANCE — Eight games conclude Opening Day Weekend, including the final six teams making their 2026 debuts. Tonight features marquee matchups: Framber Valdez vs. Michael King, Chris Sale vs. Cole Ragans, and Emmet Sheehan vs. Ryne Nelson with the Dodgers hosting the D-backs.

BEST MONEY LINE BETS

🔥 Detroit Tigers ML (+115) ✅ vs. San Diego Padres — DET/SD 9:40 PM ET

Framber Valdez (Tigers) holds a significant edge over Michael King, who had a dismal spring — giving up 20 runs in 17+ innings of spring work. Detroit’s young bats looked absolutely lethal in Game 1, posting an 8-2 victory, and Kevin McGonigle had a historic four-hit MLB debut. Covers.com expert Josh Inglis gives the Tigers a projected fair price of -122, making the +104 to +117 moneyline a strong play.

🔥 Athletics ML (+155) ❌ vs. Toronto Blue Jays — 7:07 PM ET

The A’s are a juicy road underdog against the Blue Jays, but Luis Severino is a quality arm making his second straight Opening Day start. The Athletics’ lineup, while not flashy, features patient hitters who can work counts and put pressure on Kevin Gausman. RotoWire flagged this as either a full-game ML play or an F5 value. BetRivers shows +150 while multiple books range from +135 to +155

🔥 Atlanta Braves ML ✅ (-130) vs. Kansas City Royals — 7:15 PM ET

The Braves open their 2026 season at home at Truist Park, a hitter-friendly venue, and send Chris Sale to the mound — one of the premier lefties in baseball. Sale has been among baseball’s elite starters for back-to-back seasons. The computer pick from Bleacher Nation also sides with Atlanta

BEST RUN LINE BETS

🔥 Arizona Diamondbacks +1.5 Runs (+102) ✅vs. Los Angeles Dodgers — 10:10 PM ET

Even with the Dodgers installed as massive -251 favorites (ranging from -217 to -295 across books per the odds screen), the Diamondbacks are a dangerous club capable of keeping any game competitive. Ryne Nelson was surprisingly effective last year despite poor expected metrics. Taking Arizona at plus-money on the run line at better than even money is excellent value. RotoWire specifically flagged this as a 0.5-unit play.

BEST 1st 5 INNINGS BETS

🔥 Colorado Rockies +0.5 Runs F5 (+105) ❌vs. Miami Marlins — 7:10 PM ET

At +105 on the first-five innings run line, this is plus-money insurance on the Rockies staying within a run through five frames. Kyle Freeland is not an elite pitcher, but he’s capable enough to hang around. This is a hedge play for bettors wanting Rockies exposure without the full-game risk.

🔥 Athletics +0.5 F5 (-105) ❌ at Toronto Blue Jays — 7:07 PM ET

This is the safer version of the Athletics moneyline. Rather than sweating out a full-game result, grab the Athletics at -105 to simply be within a run after five innings. Luis Severino has been effective in this role and the A’s have shown the ability to keep games close early. BettingPros also notes Gausman averaged just 6.03 innings per start last season (hit rate for Under 18.5 outs at 54%), suggesting the Blue Jays could turn to the bullpen earlier than expected.

🔥 Detroit Tigers F5 Over 3.5 Runs (-130) ❌ vs. San Diego Padres — 9:40 PM ET

Framber Valdez gives the Tigers a massive pitching edge in the first five, while Michael King has been leaky all spring. Detroit scored early and often in Game 1 and their lineup — Kerry Carpenter, Gleyber Torres, Riley Greene — has real upside against a shaky starting pitcher. RotoWire recommends the Tigers team total Over for both the first five and full game

BEST GAME TOTAL BETS

🔥 Colorado Rockies / Miami Marlins Over 7.5 Runs (-120) ❌ — 7:10 PM ET

Multiple experts have converged on this play. Sandy Alcantara posted a 5.36 ERA in 2025 and is nowhere near his 2022 Cy Young form, while Kyle Freeland posted a 4.51 FIP on the road in 2025 — worse than his mark at Coors Field. Both bullpens were consistently among the worst in baseball last year. The total was set at 7.5 across most books (PrimaryMkt opened 8) and the Over is available at even money on Kalshi. Fade these pitching staffs

🔥 Arizona Diamondbacks / Los Angeles Dodgers Over 8.5 Runs ✅— 10:10 PM ET

The Dodgers’ offense (Ohtani, Tucker, Betts, Freeman) is the most powerful in MLB. Dodger Stadium was the most homer-friendly ballpark in all of baseball last year by a significant margin. The Bleacher Nation computer also projects Over on this 8.5 total. Even in a pitching-forward game, the Dodgers alone project to score several runs.

BEST TEAM TOTAL BETS

🔥 Detroit Tigers Team Total Over 3.5 Runs (-110) ✅— at San Diego Padres — 9:40 PM ET

This is one of RotoWire’s top plays. Framber Valdez provides cover for the Tigers’ pitching, and Michael King was a disaster this spring (20 runs allowed in 17+ innings). Detroit’s offense showed its ceiling in Game 1 with an 8-2 blowout. At -110, this is a straightforward team total play with a clear pitching mismatch.

🔥 Los Angeles Angels Team Total Under 3.5 (-110) ❌ — at Houston Astros — 8:15 PM ET

ESPN’s THE BAT X system flagged a remarkable trend: the Angels have been Under in seven straight away games (+7.30 units / 87% ROI). Yusei Kikuchi pitching for the Angels is a fine starter, but if Houston’s offense gets going early, Los Angeles may spend most of the game on defense. The Astros bullpen is also much improved.

BEST NRFI (No Run in First Inning)

🔥 Kansas City Royals vs. Atlanta Braves NRFI (-130) ❌— 7:15 PM ET

This is BettingPros’ top NRFI play of the day, and it’s easy to see why. Cole Ragans (LHP) vs. Chris Sale (LHP) is arguably the best pitching matchup on the entire Friday slate — two elite strikeout artists who typically deal cleanly through the first inning. Neither lineup is particularly loaded at the top of the order (Kansas City leads off with Maikel Garcia; Atlanta with Ronald Acuña Jr., who is returning from injury). At -130, the price is reasonable for two shutdown starters.

🔥 Cleveland Guardians vs. Seattle Mariners NRFI ❌— 9:45 PM ET

George Kirby is widely regarded as one of the best “first inning” starters in baseball — he historically mows down the first batter and sets clean tones. The Sports Gambling Podcast noted that Kirby “held the Mets to no runs in 7.0 innings to open up his 2025 campaign.” Cleveland’s top of the order (Steven Kwan, Chase DeLauter, José Ramírez) is disciplined, not necessarily first-inning explosive against elite arms

🔥 Athletics vs. Toronto Blue Jays NRFI ✅— 7:07 PM ET

Both Luis Severino and Kevin Gausman are quality veteran starters who typically begin their outings cleanly. The Blue Jays’ lineup (George Springer, Nathan Lukes, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.) is strong in the middle but the first-inning dynamic should favor a clean start from Severino. An NRFI play here gets you insurance against both clubs’ early-game tendencies.

BEST PITCHER PROPS

🔥 Kevin Gausman [TOR] Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-122)✅ vs. Athletics — 7:07 PM ET

ESPN’s THE BAT X system gives this a 59% probability of hitting with $8.18 EV. The Athletics’ projected lineup features at least three hitters with K-rates above 27% — Max Muncy, Nick Kurtz, and Denzel Clarke — all projected to be high-strikeout outs for Gausman. FanDuel Research also independently recommended Gausman over 5.5 Ks. Both books and models are aligned here.

🔥 Chris Sale [ATL] Over 6.5 Strikeouts ❌ — vs. Kansas City Royals — 7:15 PM ET

FanDuel Research highlights Sale as a top strikeout play — and the pedigree here speaks for itself. Sale has been a back-to-back Cy Young contender and his slider remains one of the most devastating pitches in baseball. The Royals’ lineup, while solid at the top (Bobby Witt Jr., Lane Thomas), features enough swing-and-miss in the middle to fuel a high-K afternoon for the lefty ace.

🔥 Emmet Sheehan [LAD] Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+117)✅ vs. Arizona — 10:10 PM ET

BetUS recommends Sheehan, who posted a 2.82 ERA with 89 strikeouts in just 73.1 innings across 15 appearances last season. The Diamondbacks struck out eight times in the series opener, and Sheehan’s electric stuff figures to be even more effective the second time through the lineup at Dodger Stadium, a park that plays very favorably for strikeout-heavy starters. At +117, you’re getting plus-money on what should be a lock.

🔥 Sandy Alcantara [MIA] Under 5.5 Strikeouts (-130)✅ vs. Colorado — 7:10 PM ET

BettingPros makes a compelling case for fading Alcantara’s K total. Despite an impressive-sounding recent stretch, Sandy posted a 5.36 ERA last season and struck out five or fewer batters in 60% of his starts. He is fundamentally a contact/ground ball pitcher with just a 6.8 K/9 rate, and the line at 5.5 is set to attract Over action from casual bettors.

🔥 Yusei Kikuchi [LAA] Over 14.5 Outs Recorded (-137) ❌ vs. Houston — 8:15 PM ET

BettingPros notes Kikuchi recorded 15 or more outs in 90% of his starts in 2025 — an elite number for this type of prop. He is heading back to Houston, a park he has proven comfortable in over his career, and he threw 64 pitches through 4.2 innings in his final spring training start, suggesting he’s stretched out. The -137 price is warranted given the 90% historical hit rate.

🔥 Cole Ragans [KC] Under 1.5 Earned Runs (+120) ❌vs. Atlanta — 7:15 PM ET

ESPN’s THE BAT X gives this a 49% probability with $6.90 EV at +120. The Atlanta Braves rank as the fourth-worst projected lineup in all of baseball tonight (with Jurickson Profar suspended and relying on Mike Yastrzemski to fill his spot). At plus-money, this is a tremendous value play on a lefty ace going against a depleted offense.

BEST PLAYER PROPS

🔥 Bobby Witt Jr. [KC] Over 1.5 Total Bases (+115) ✅ vs. Atlanta Braves — 7:15 PM ET

VSiN’s top hitter prop of the day. Despite going hitless in his final seven spring training at-bats, Witt is always a threat against left-handed starters, and Chris Sale — elite as he is — does give up his share of hard contact. Truist Park plays as a hitter-friendly venue, and Witt’s Baseball Savant profile shows he is productive against fastballs, breaking balls, and offspeed pitches alike. At +115, you’re getting plus-money on a superstar in a favorable park.

🔥 Nolan Schanuel [LAA] Over 1.5 H+R+RBI (+110) ✅vs. Houston Astros — 8:15 PM ET

Vaalue play of the evening. Schanuel averaged 2.1 combined HRR in road games against right-handed starters last season, and tonight he faces Mike Burrows (RHP) — whose go-to pitch is the four-seamer, exactly what Schanuel handles best. He also homered on Thursday, suggesting he’s already locked in for this young season. At +110, this is genuine plus-money value

🔥 José Ramírez [CLE] OVER 1.5 Total Bases (-108) ❌vs. Seattle Mariners — 9:45 PM ET

Ramírez is a switch-hitter who consistently puts the ball in play hard, and even in a tough matchup against George Kirby, he has the talent level to notch extra bases. At near-even money, the probability that baseball’s most productive switch hitter collects a double or better is quite strong.

🔥 Kevin McGonigle [DET] Over 1.5 H+R+RBI (+125)✅ vs. San Diego Padres — 9:40 PM ET

Standout hitter prop. This 21-year-old Tiger rookie had a 4-for-5 performance with two doubles, two RBI, and two runs in his MLB debut on Thursday — one of the most electric debut games in recent memory. While no one expects a carbon copy, backing McGonigle to get at least one hit against Michael King (who had a terrible spring) is a high-probability wager.

🔥 Hunter Goodman [COL] Over 0.5 RBI (+217) ❌ vs. Miami Marlins — 7:10 PM ET

ESPN’s THE BAT X system gives this a 37% probability but a massive $18.43 EV — the highest expected value of any batter prop on today’s board. Goodman’s maximum exit velocity has been 116.2 mph since the start of last season, placing him in the 94th percentile in power metrics. At +217, you need less than a 33% hit rate to profit long-term.

BEST HOME RUN PROPS

🔥 Shohei Ohtani [LAD] to Hit a Home Run (+170) ❌vs. Arizona — 10:10 PM ET

The most-bet home run prop on the entire board today per DraftKings data. Dodger Stadium was the most homer-friendly ballpark in all of baseball in 2025 by a significant margin. Ohtani needs no further introduction — he is baseball’s most complete offensive weapon, and Arizona’s Ryne Nelson ranked in the 4th percentile in average exit velocity against, suggesting his strong 2025 may have been unsustainable.

🔥 Nick Kurtz [ATH] to Hit a Home Run (+300) ❌vs. Toronto — 7:07 PM ET

Kurtz is off to a running start of buzz in his sophomore season. He bats fourth in the A’s lineup, hitting in the heart of the order against Gausman (who can be hittable). At +280 to +342 depending on the book, this is arguably the best value in the first-five home run prop market tonight.

🔥 Ronald Acuña Jr. [ATL] to Hit a Home Run (+360) ❌vs. Kansas City — 7:15 PM ET

The most-bet HR list shows Acuña at +408, one of the most popular bets of the day. Coming off what will be a full recovery season, Acuña leads the Braves lineup at Truist Park — a hitter-friendly venue. Cole Ragans is a quality LHP, but Acuña hits left-handers with power regularly and is the type of player capable of changing a game with one swing.

🔥 Kyle Tucker [LAD] to Hit a Home Run (+360) ❌ vs. Arizona — 10:10 PM ET

FanDuel Research lists Tucker as one of the three best HR props of the day at +400. Tucker bats second in the Dodgers’ lineup ahead of Mookie Betts and behind Ohtani — meaning pitchers often have nowhere to hide. At Dodger Stadium against a questionable Arizona starter, Tucker’s power numbers make him a legitimate threat with meaningful upside.

🔥 Kerry Carpenter [DET] to Hit a Home Run (+340) ❌vs. San Diego — 9:40 PM ET

Carpenter leads off for a Tigers team that just erupted for 8 runs in Game 1 against San Diego. Michael King struggled all spring and is the most vulnerable starting pitcher on tonight’s entire slate. Carpenter is a lefty hitter with legitimate pull power at Petco Park. At +327 to +340, this is among the most popular DK bets of the day for good reason.

🔥 3-Leg Home Run Parlay: Shohei Ohtani [LAD] + Kyle Schwarber [PHI] + Pete Alonso [BAL]

The logic here is irrefutable. You have the two players with 50+ home runs in 2025 — Ohtani (55 HRs) and Schwarber (56 HRs) — both playing in their home stadiums on Opening Day. Add in Alonso (+254) in his brand-new Camden Yards home with massive motivation in his Orioles debut. Each of these three players has the highest baseline probability on the board for connecting on a given day. Ohtani has an established Opening Day HR streak (2024 and 2025). The combination at roughly +2,000 to +2,400 is the most intelligent high-odds wager on the slate.

The Tigers are the value side — Framber Valdez is a massive upgrade over Michael King, and Detroit just went 8-2 in Game 1. The Mariners are the safe anchor — George Kirby at T-Mobile Park in a bounce-back spot after losing Game 1 of the season is a recipe for a dominant home performance. Both teams have strong starting pitcher advantages and proved their offenses were ready on Thursday.
